wilkins township ampitheater

turtle creek, PA

Overview

The recreation facilities located at the Wilkins Township Municipal Building were outdated and/or non-existent for their current needs. Klavon was hired to convert the underutilized ball field into an outdoor amphitheater, greatly improve an outdoor space for the community center, incorporate an area for a small community garden, and to manage stormwater.

The goal of the project was to design all elements in harmony with one another to create areas that both fit the overall plan and work as individual spaces. The amphitheater space is flexible and allows for larger events such as Wilkins Township’s summer concert series, while the community center provides space for events such as weddings and business meetings. The site features stormwater management that is incorporated into the design and becomes a feature of the site.

Klavon met with a steering committee to help refine their vision while making sure that the design and costs reflected the needs and budget of Wilkins Township. The township’s goal was to self-perform many of the proposed construction projects.

This project will help to revitalize an underused space, increase the popularity of the area, and aid in bringing in funds to sustain the spaces, all while providing a great space for the community to come together.
