Overview

The purpose of the Watervliet Arsenal Family Housing Area Future Development Plan was to provide the most cost-effective and long-term solution for providing quality family housing that is energy efficient, complies with state and federal building, fire, and safety codes, meets environmental and sustainability criteria, meets the current unified facilities construction criteria UFC 4-711-02A Army Family Housing Supplement Draft 2013 and be in compliance with the State/Federal Historical Preservation requirements for a period of 25 years. The solution for providing quality housing was determined through the comparative analysis of three courses of action: restoration/renovation of existing inventory, demolish existing and replace with new construction, or combination of restoration and new construction.

Implementation of the preferred course of action was also divided into short (0-5 years, mid (6-10 years), and long (+11 years) range plans. This prioritized the renovation and restoration of the Arsenals historic family housing followed by the construction of the new Quarters.
