south capitol street corridor improvements
washington, dc
Overview
Although South Capitol Street was given prominence in Pierre L’Enfant’s 1791 master plan city, the introduction of a railroad bridge and Interstate 695 severed the corridor from its focal point - the U.S. Capitol Building. Klavon worked with the District of Columbia Department of Transportation (DDOT) to restore the Corridor to L’Enfant’s vision of a grand urban boulevard and gateway to our nation’s Capitol. The project goal was to design multi-modal connections from historic Suitland Parkway, over the Frederick Douglass Bridge, to South Capitol Street.
