Overview

Once one of the main retail corridors in the Hill District, Herron Avenue has been largely abandoned over the last half century. Taking a cue from a new geothermal heating/cooling system that was installed by the Wesley A.M.E. Zion Church, the community would like to tap into the remaining capacity of the system, to encourage green development on this street. Sites designed include several community spaces, an entrance to a new series of trails above the Allegheny River, and the revitalization of Williams Park/Herron Hill Reservoir. Tasks included community facilitation and participation, historic research, site analysis, identifying assets and liabilities, developing conceptual design alternatives, providing recommendations for design as it pertains to the site and landscape, and providing funding and implementation strategies.
