beaver falls library park
beaver falls, PA
Overview
The City of Beaver Falls is developing a project to rehabilitate and expand an urban plaza creating a focal point in its downtown. The project is located on 13th Street, adjacent to Carnegie Free Library of Beaver Falls, and will include a complete redesign of a severely distressed and neglected public park situated adjacent to Carnegie Free Library of Beaver Falls, including the closure of a public street to expand the park in its place. Features of the proposed park include landscaped ground cover, benches, informal gathering areas, and pedestrian and bicycle facilities.
The project incorporates numerous landscaped areas throughout the area, softening the otherwise hardscaped space that exists today. The planting beds will incorporate rain garden features as a method of controlling stormwater. The vegetation within the rain gardens will filter runoff and transpire runoff, and the root systems will enhance the infiltration of stormwater on-site. The planting beds themselves act as temporary water storage to allow for infiltration and limit the volume of stormwater leaving the site.
