Arcena Connections Improvement study
pittsburgh parks conservancy, hill house | Pittsburgh, PA
Overview
Klavon prepared a vision plan for the Hill District’s Arcena Street area. Project goals were to identify the opportunity for green spaces as new neighborhood and regional destinations and to propose connections between existing community and future public green spaces including walks, trails, overlooks, parks, playgrounds, and urban courtyards. This included researching historic documents, providing mapping, facilitating public meetings, and graphic design work.
A series of educational, planning, and art events were organized to draw on local experience and expertise. In addition, the planning team explored the area with neighbors, block-clubs, community organizations, area youth, public officials, and faculty and students of the University of Pittsburgh.
As a result, numerous sites of opportunity for green public spaces and new destinations were identified. The team made recommendations for the area including renovating the Cliff Street Playground, restoring access to an overlook, building a trail with lookout points, and restoring steps to an adjoining street.
